 International Women's Day - 2013 (Upcoming)



UN Women National Committee Canada will be celebrating the 2013 International Women's Day based on the theme, "Strong Women, Strong Leadership, Strong World : Equality"  on 8th March 2013. Preparations are well underway  to forge partnerships with corporate, civil society and local allies across Canada for the celebrations pertaining to International Women's Day. Additional details on events and their location will be updated on our website in due course.

Almas Jiwani, President of UN Women National Committee Canada to address Interim Place annual gala "Rays of Hope" and receive the 2013 Woman of Courage Award

Almas Jiwani will be speaking at the Interim Place annual flagship gala  "Rays of Hope" on the issue of women abuse. Ms. Jiwani will also be awarded the Woman of Courage Award at the Gala by Interim Place for her efforts to empower and provide a voice to women world over.  Click Here to read the official press release for the event.

Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and Canadian National Committee for UN Women, President to Celebrate Pakistan Women's Public Meeting

Ms. Almas Jiwani, President of the National Committee for UN Women - Canada and Dr. Farooq Sattar, Minister of Overseas Pakistanis and Deputy Convener of MQM are pleased to announce that preparations for the Women's Public Meeting are in full force. Ms. Alice Shackelford, UN Women Pakistan Country Director is also an invited dignitary to the conference. The Women's Meeting is one of the largest women's assemblies in the history of Pakistan that will be organized in Karachi, Pakistan to discuss the topics of gender equality and empowerment of women for a strong Pakistan on February 19th 2012. Many thousands of women and girls are expected to show up to this event to acquire inspiration, support and empowerment for a better future.

Where: Bagh-e-Jinnah, adjacent to the Mausoleum of Founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Time: 3:00pm- 8:30 p.m.

Focus: Pakistan Women' Public Meeting is one of the largest gathering of women to date. This meeting signals a new era for gender equality, and provides the commitment by MQM and other Pakistani civil society allies to accelerate progress on gender rights and the women's rights and empowerment. The convention will provide a powerful voice for Pakistani women's issues and will allow all Pakistani women to spearhead a more coordinated and effective response to gender inequalities around the country. The conference aims to bring women belonging to all faiths and nationalities on 19th February 2012 and demonstrate that they are firmly united for equality in all facets of life.
