MISSION AND VALUES:

UN Women National Committee Canada (previously UNIFEM Canada)  was founded in 1993 with a vision to promote Equality for all Women.  The committee works to enhance the work of  UN Women in advising countries to implement the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG's) so as to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment by:

+Supporting countries in advancing gender equality in line with national priorities and
+Supporting action on gender equality throughout the United Nations development cooperation system

The humanitarian and gender-based work of UN Women National Committee Canada is strongly resonated in the values it promotes, such as cooperation, accountability, integrity, creativity and respect for each other and one's work.

UN WOMEN - CANADA'S WORK:

UN Women National Committee Canada raises UN Women's profile and promotes its work in Canada; raises funds for UN Women projects; creates awareness within the Canadian government for increased funding for UN Women projects and encourages non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to promote and support UN Women.

Each year, UN Women Canada hosts two important national events to rally support for gender equality causes and raise funds to supplement the work done in the developing countries through the UN Women  headquarters in New York.

 1) Annual  UN Women National Committee Canada (previously UNIFEM Canada) Award Ceremony

+Each year UN Women National Committee Canada bestows an award to a Canadian who has made outstanding contributions towards UN Women's gender equality goals .

2) Annual Mother's Day Card Campaign

+Show your mother that you love her and that you support UN Women. When you make a donation to UN Women National Committee Canada, your mother will receive an attractive Mother's Day card with a personal message from you.

THE PRESENT AND THE FUTURE:

In present times, UN Women National Committee Canada, under the leadership of its President Almas Jiwani, has grown into a national organization of women and men working to support the United Nations in its efforts to empower women and seek gender equality worldwide. The Board of Directors and it's Regional Representatives across Canada develop awareness campaigns and raise funds for gender equality programmes through educational seminars and fundraising activities. In the near future, the Canadian National Committee also aims to open regional offices in Manitoba, Ontario, Maritimes, Quebec, Northern Canada, Alberta and British Columbia.
